I was already feeling the tragedy oncoming just seeing the happier (in such a long time) moments between Corteo and Angelo. Their friendship/brotherhood, is, at least, reaffirmed to be strong especially on the former's end. :c Corteo didn't deserve anything of what he went through all this time, he was a true brother indeed, and such a stark contrast to Frate. Frate who was Nero's blood brother but is not above killing him, and then there's Corteo who did stumble along the way but ultimately just wanted to save Angelo. A brother for a brother. Nero killed Frate, and now Angelo was forced to kill Corteo. Karma comes back in brutality, especially for our vengeful protagonist.
