Giri Wins to Tighten Race after Nepomniachtchi and Caruana draw

GM Fabiano Caruana didn’t lose ground after his Round 11 draw with leader GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, but today’s result may have shut the door on his World Championship aspirations for this cycle. Still a full point behind the leader with three rounds to play, Caruana will need a bit of luck if he is to win the FIDE Candidates and earn a rematch with World Champion Magnus Carlsen later this year.
