The USL League One ended their season this past weekend with the championship game in Cary, NC between North Carolina FC and the Charlotte Independence. Each team had a player with ties to Kansas City on it, the hosts, North Carolina had former Sporting KC HomeGrown Player, Brooks Thompson, in goal, on loan from Philadelphia Union 2 of MLS Next Pro. For the Independence was former Swope Park Rangers' player, Dane Kelly. Both players were participants in the final, with Thompson starting and Kelly coming in off the bench. After a scoreless 90 minutes, the game went to extra time
