No. 11 Mavis Toyota Camry TRD News and Notes HAMLIN AT WATKINS GLEN: Denny Hamlin is a former NASCAR Cup Series winner at Watkins Glen International after visiting victory lane in 2016. Overall, he has posted five top-five finishes at the track – four of those coming in the past six visits to the New York road course. Last season, Hamlin started 22nd and finished 20th at Watkins Glen. INDIANAPOLIS RECAP: Hamlin finished 19th in last Sunday’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. After starting 25th, the No. 11 team opted for a risky strategy to stretch their fuel to the end of stage two before pitting. The gamble by crew chief Chris Gabehart was rewarded with the team’s fifth stage win of the season. Once the pit strategies cycled around, Hamlin was outside the top 20 before grabbing a few positions late to finish 19th. HEATING UP: Hamlin leads all drivers with 308 points scored in the last eight races. During that time, Hamlin has posted a 7.5-average finishing position and four finishes of third or better, including his 50th career win at Pocono Raceway last month. STAGE WINNER: With his stage two victory at Indianapolis, Hamlin is one of only two drivers with multiple stage wins on road courses this season. Hamlin, who also won the opening stage at Sonoma Raceway in June, and his teammate Christopher Bell are the only drivers in the Cup Series to accomplish that feat so far this season.
