Functional as well as superbly carved, it’s more than just art: it allows you to play chess or backgammon with flair. This hand carved octagon shaped wooden chess board will greatly enhance your enjoyment of either game you choose: a backgammon layout is on one side, while a chess board is on the other. The chess pieces in Court style, are carved in expressive detail, and each type of piece is easily distinguished from the others. The board is in the form of a carrying case that easily latches, and it contains the playing pieces inside for easy travel. The case can either be elevated on four decoratively carved, detachable legs for play, or be used flat with the legs packed inside. Each set includes pieces for backgammon and chess, and all pieces are lovingly carved by experienced Balinese carvers from the village of Tampaksiring, who typically learn their craft from their parents, and so on back through generations. The chess sets are made of albizzia and sono wood, both sustainably harvested woods. When open and standing on legs, it is approximately 10 H x 22 W x 22 L.
